Dine Bikeyah (Navajo Nation) born and raised Sash Belt Weaver, Jonessa Reid, has been weaving since 2017. Although, she comes from a lineage of weavers, she felt the urge to start her journey in revitalizing this particular Navajo art form. Her style of weaving merges the traditional and contemporary worlds of wearable art, allowing her to create versatile and unique designs. Each item woven brings meaning and stories for the weaver and wearer. As an emerging Indigenous artist in the Native Art world, she has been juried into her first art show in the 2021 Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market. Please join us for an artist lecture by our founder Emma Robbins on Thursday, February 4 from 5:30 - 6:30 PM PST. Emma will present on her arts, human rights and community organizing work on the Navajo Nation, and talk about the ideas behind and the reasons for founding The Chapter House. The presentation will be followed by a Q + A moderated by Isabella Robbins.
