The Chapter House in March / April
We’ve been busy here at The Chapter House the last few months. Last month, we…
Opened our very first exhibition, “but when you come from water”
We were blown away by all the amazing submissions we received from artists all over the world for our very first online exhibition “but when you come from water”. The show runs until May 30, so be sure to check it out here before it closes!
Hosted an Artist Lecture with sash belt weaver Jonessa Reid
We got to hear from one of the foremost sash belt weavers on Diné Bikéyah (the Navajo Nation) Jonessa Reid. Although she comes from a lineage of weavers, she felt the urge to start her journey in revitalizing this particular Navajo art form. Her style of weaving merges the traditional and contemporary worlds of wearable art, allowing her to create versatile and unique designs. Each item woven brings meaning and stories for the weaver and wearer.
If you missed the talk, you can watch the whole recording on our site here.
Heard our founder and Executive Director is having a baby!
The Chapter House is getting a new community member! Emma announced that she was expecting a baby girl this month. The Chapter House is slowing down operations so Baby Robbins can get the love and attention she needs. All of our love and support to Emma, Baby Robbins and the rest of their family!
WHAT’S COMING UP?
Live events!
In the coming months, we’re hosting a couple of live events highlighting both film and poetry of the incredible artists in "but when you come from water."
You can keep up to date by checking out our calendar, and checking in on our social media.
An arts and crafts night!
We're also excited to host another arts and crafts hour! In our last session, you all brought your own projects and we talked about culture, community and the intersectional issues that affect folks here in The United States and Canada. Keep your eye out in June for that event!
Opening a physical space!
We're also working towards our goal of opening a brick and mortar this fall. This is a huge step for our organization, and because of the generosity of our supporters and community, it seems tangible.
To open this space, we’ll need $50,000 in donations to set up shop and keep the lights on for a full year. Every donation gets us a step closer to our goal. If you'd can, make a tax-exempt donation today!
