Western Navajo Fair, 2019

We know you’re missing Fair season (because we are too), so we here at The Chapter House are gearing up to provide online programming perfect for a chilly autumn evening curled up in front of the fire.

The Chapter House wishes a very happy new year to our Navajo brothers and sisters! In Navajo culture, the beginning of the New Year begins in October, or Gháájí’ (‘Half’). This marks the end of the growing season. Crops harvested in the month of October were stored to feed the family in the winter.

Tomorrow is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. On the second Monday of every October, we recognize and celebrate Indigenous peoples in the United States while reckoning with our history of colonization, violence, and genocide. This month, you can stay up to date with us by signing up for our newsletter, following us on social media, and reaching out to us directly here. As we prepare for Native American Heritage Month in November, donations will help us create what you want to see.

So please give what you can!

We’ll leave you with a final question: what programs do you want to see from us in November? Artist talks, online auctions, exhibitions, or something else entirely? Let us know in the comments!
