She / Her / Hers

Born near the ocean, Lynn Benson left the corporate world in 2010 and established an art studio near the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers in Kansas City. Whether oil on canvas, works on vellum, collaged photographs or experimental mixed media, she is driven by “the poetry and the politics of water.”

News stories revolving around world waters lead her to research satellite mapping imagery and to frame and incorporate select river curves and shorelines into a unique aesthetic.

Benson’s environmental/water focus has led to artist residencies on the Florida panhandle and in Key West, as well as the Flint Hills Tallgrass Prairie of Kansas. In 2015 she was awarded an ArtsKC Inspiration Grant in support of her exhibition “Waterplaces: 100 works on paper” at the Kansas City Design Center, later purchased by the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University for their permanent collection.

Featured in solo and group shows nationally, her work can be found in corporate and private collections across the U.S.
