LA NDN Relief + Recoup

  • The Chapter House 1770 Glendale Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90026 United States (map)

Join us Sunday, January 19, from 4 - 7 pm for the LA NDN Relief + Recoup. The Chapter House is teaming up once again with the fierce and fab Jana Schmieding to bring you an evening of NDN tacos, relaxing artmaking activities, and some Native comedy from LA’s funniest (childcare and kid activities provided for the comedy hour)! Let’s use this event to gather, hug each other, and resource our community for the fire recovery long-haul. We’ll hear from UAII (United American Indian Involvement) on their relief efforts and how to support them and/or access aid. Also, we’re inviting the many visiting tribal fire crews who have so generously traveled here to protect us and our city.

Natives and our allies in Hollywood have found fun and unique ways to raise cash and provide mutual aid for BIPOC families affected by the fires in Altadena as well as Domestic Workers and second responders across LA. We’ll be sharing that information on Sunday as well, so bring your raffle monies and get ready to put cash in that blanket.

If you’re in need of community and some Native R + R after these challenging times, come on out!

This event is FREE and open to the public. It will be indoors with air purifiers. TCH’s outdoors space remains closed and we strongly encourage all to mask while outside. Extra N95 masks on hand! To attend please register HERE. No one will be turned away, but this helps us get a more accurate headcount!

Lastly, we’re asking for your help in 2 ways:

1- UAII is in need of specific items for their emergency shelter and community distribution, including:
* Bottled water
* Diapers
* Wipes
* Energy drinks
* Handwarmers
* Chapstick
* Protein drinks
* Adult underwear
* Toilet paper
* Air purifiers (DIY or commerically made)
* Brand new baby clothes

(THEY NEED THE LAST TWO ESPECIALLY!)

Please bring these with you as UAII will be there/we can deliver on your behalf.

2- Help us get the word out to the out-of-towner Native first responders. We want to provide them with food + community too! If you’re in contact with these groups or part of one of them, please share this info/contact us. We will work with their schedules and can bring food to them or have them by another time.

Keep an eye out for more upcoming events and ways that you can continue to help those affected by the LA fires in the short and long term.

Be safe k’é, please reach out with any questions, and see you soon. 🫶🏽
