DINÉ BIKÉYAHDI NIHIŁ HAZ’Ą́ĄGI BEE NIHIDZIIL

OUR PLACE IN THE DINÉ HOMELANDS IS OUR STRENGTH

The theme for our 23rd Diné Studies Conference is Diné Bikéyahdi Nihił Haz’ą́ągi Bee Nihidziil -- Our place in the Diné homelands is our strength. We believe that as the land is transforming and we feel the impacts of climate change upon our homelands, it is imperative for us to strengthen our bond with the land. Diné k'ehjí, when we introduce ourselves, we always include where we are from. This act establishes our connection to the sacred mountains and to our people between them. It is upon us to continue to defend and protect our sacred homeland. It is also imperative that we continue to learn the history and stories of our homeland so we continue to honor this space.

We are seeking presentations on the meanings of Diné homeland, the future of our land, teachings about our homeland, land acknowledgements, the history of the colonial impacts upon our homeland, and efforts to defend and protect our homeland.

We encourage Navajo people, and our allies, who act upon, advocate for, and envision the development and growth of our land to apply--including researchers, healers, visionaries, thinkers, planners, leaders, scientists, and all other individuals who are working to sustain, regenerate, revitalize, and build Diné communities.  We encourage proposals from youth, young adults, adults, elders, students, community members, cultural knowledge experts, medicine men and women, academics, educators, professionals, government officials, artists, activists, and others. We will accept proposals focusing on issues related to the theme in all subject areas. Proposals for sessions delivered in Diné bizaad or focused on intergenerational learning are highly encouraged!

All presentations will be video recorded. All sessions are 90 minutes. Individual proposals will be grouped into a panel with a similar subject or topic area.

All submissions are due by February 20, 2023. Notification of acceptance will be by mid-March, 2023.

NOTE: All accepted presenters are required to pre-register, including the fee, in order to confirm their participation in the conference.
