Take me home to the Navajo Nation...
Because of COVID-19, I have not been able to travel home in nine months - the longest I’ve ever been away. One of the ways to console myself has been to slow down, listen to music, and remember sweet and simple times from home. Being a 20-something and away from home in the middle of a global pandemic is a trip, but if you’re in the mood for some extreme nostalgia which may or may not stir up memories of:
high school football games on Friday nights,
smoky air during fair season,
driving to the river with your friends in the summer, windows down and bushy hair,
falling asleep on your grandpa’s old couches in late spring with KTNN on the radio and a cool breeze blowing through the house,
being way too young to drive, but “busting a cruise” on the dirt roads with your best friend in her mom’s Tahoe,
Listening to Mariah Carey’s Daydream on an Elmo cassette player,
the desert, mountains, the Grand Canyon,
teenage angst, growing pains, and being 17,
going to town for the first time on your own,
dancing with your dad on New Year’s Eve in your living room or at Stateline,
mixtapes your older sister made for you,
singing Sharon Burch songs in Navajo class,
home, sweet, sweet home,
then this playlist is for you. At a time when we’re constantly told to push through and push forward, I hope these songs take you back and take you home. Just for a little.
