Artist Spotlight: Hashké and Reno Tsosie
Reno Hashké Tabaaha Tsosie is a Diné artist and designer, originally from Sweetwater, on the Navajo Nation. He grew up in Cortez, Colorado, and Farmington, New Mexico. His maternal clan is Tábą́ą́há and he is born for Táchíi’nii. His maternal grandfathers are Hashtł’ishnii and paternal grandparents are Ta’neeszahnii.
Reno comes from a line of artists. Growing up he was constantly surrounded by art and culture and immersed in the ways in which we understand who we are as Diné people. He attended Stanford University and received a B.A. in American Studies while completing his initial apparel design training through the costume design program.
He has worked in two worlds: both the creative and financial spheres of the luxury fashion industry. His work has appeared on the runway during New York Fashion Week under the houses of Dennis Basso and J Mendel. He is also an alumnus of Neiman Marcus' Executive Development Program and had a successful career on their leadership training track.
Reno is the founder and creator of Hashké, a menswear line that draws from Navajo culture and shares the Navajo journey through artistic storytelling.
Hashké brings together all of his experiences as a Navajo artist and businessman with a mission to share his culture with the world.
Today, Hashké supports a small group of creators and artisans, but tomorrow it is his mission to bring jobs and economic diversity back to the Navajo Nation.
